A splashback is essentially a protective surface placed over your walls in areas where there’s ongoing exposure to damaging liquids. This includes everything from oils and grease to moisture and splattered juices from food. Although most commonly found behind stovetops and workbenches in your kitchen, they’re also used in bathrooms. Splashbacks are available in a huge range of materials from tile and marble to pressed metal and acrylic. Depending on whether you’re fitting a standard glass fence or a frameless option the approach is pretty similar. Installation begins by pouring a concrete footing under your tiles or pavers – anchored to this will be your posts using a chemical anchor, studs and bolts. Starting from your end bracket, glass panels are placed level and square in each of the posts, with the gate attached and hinged to finish the job. Although it seems an easy DIY job, you’ll be amazed at how tricky it can actually be – particularly when drilling into your pavers.
